How Do All-on-4 Dental Implants Work?
During the All-on-4 procedure, we strategically insert four dental implants into the jawbone. Two go close to the front, and two are placed toward the back at a 45-degree angle. This placement strategy utilizes areas of the bone that are naturally strong and thick, so many patients can complete All-on-4 treatment without undergoing a bone graft first. After the implants are inserted, we attach a provisional (temporary) denture to them, so you can leave our office with a brand-new smile! After a healing period, the provisional denture gets replaced by a permanent one.
Am I a Candidate for All-on-4 Dental Implants?
You might be a suitable candidate for All-on-4 treatment if:
- You are missing all or most of your teeth throughout one of your dental arches.
- Your jawbone is healthy enough to support dental implants.
- You are free of active gum disease and other conditions that could adversely affect your implants.
- You are committed to good habits that will support your implants’ long-term success.
If you are unsure of whether All-on-4 dental implants are right for you, visit us for a consultation. Most patients who want this treatment can qualify for it, either immediately or after some preparatory care.
Benefits of All-on-4 Dental Implants
All-on-4 dental implants offer a number of outstanding benefits:
- You can expect your new denture to have a strong bite that allows you to easily eat virtually any food.
- Because they are securely anchored in the mouth, you will not have to worry about your dentures slipping out of place.
- All-on-4 dentures are permanently attached to the implants beneath them, so in many ways, you can treat them just like natural teeth.
- Jawbone preservation. Dental implants stimulate the jawbone and can prevent the deterioration that normally occurs following tooth loss.
- We carefully design All-on-4 dentures with the goal of making them look as natural as possible.
All-on-4 vs. Traditional Dental Implants
There are some noteworthy differences between All-on-4 treatment and traditional dental implants:
- Treatment process. All-on-4 treatment usually involves just one surgery, as opposed to two or more. Therefore, it is less invasive and faster overall.
- Traditional implants can replace any number of missing teeth, whereas All-on-4 is only for full-arch replacement.
- In some cases, traditional dental implants can be stronger than All-on-4 dentures.
Both types of implant treatment come with their own set of pros and cons. Our team can help you decide which option is a better fit for your circumstances and preferences.
